The advantages compared with the superheated steam-vacuum drying a) to conventional kilns and b) to simple vacuum processes (partly vapor air mixture) are known and indisputable.

Now we have developed the superheated steam-vacuum process further:
It is our widened, rectangular vacuum kiln housing, a specially efficient steam generator system with revolutionary operating software (steam saturation and pulsation) combined – which resulted in the new 

HIGH VAC® - MASTER.

This technical super performance is suited for all lumber species and thickness, particularly for

thick and dense hardwoods

Vacuum kilns are a product of BRUNNER – HILDEBRAND for  30 Years . The  HIGH VAC®– S (S = Standard) has been manufactured since  1990. A new drying and quality improvement technology has been implemented in the HIGH VAC® - MASTER. Every experienced kiln operator knows:

The proper heat up and following assimilation phase are responsible for quality. Therefore steaming and steam shock is the best. Even High-pressure spray (hot or cold Water) is not as efficient. A successful drying cycle depends on the different
approaches: Steam is the perfect solution compared to water.

Our HIGH VAC® – Master knows these approaches. Heating is with saturated steam. Critical lumber species
will dry at temperatures from 150 to 200F without the danger of cracks or honeycomb due to controlled steam shocks
Changing the steam climate will result in a gentle drying.

Operating at the Steam  “Magic point“(Temperature range of plastizising). Will result in shorter drying times without the defects.

Small vacuum kilns with Heat pump (construction lumber) have some advantages. To achieve the quality and drying times the Steam pulsation (HIGH-STEAM-PULSATION®) requires High temperatures. Heat pumps are not capable of operating at these conditions (coolant, no steam etc).

The HIGH VAC® - Master has the solution for problems which nobody wanted to address previuosly. The Steam pulsation technology switches between regular steam and saturated steam Resulting in a continuously conditioning / brake/ Reconditioning pattern profile which allows for absolute stress released lumber. The measured and controlled lumber internal  steam pressure is responsible for the differentials necessary to assure targeted and controlled moisture drop from the core to shell of the lumber. The  useless air pressure of conventional kilns is eliminated.

The controlled swings – controlled by sophisticated software is foremost of the technical solutions
Remark: Air humidity (conventional) is not steam humidity  (HIGH VAC® - Master).

The most important parameters are the measured values for lumber temperature in connection with the lumber moisture contens of shell and core measurements .

Field reports of our satisfied customers with the
HIGH VAC® MASTER

Example 1:

This company is drying Spruce in seven conventional kilns (90 – 200 mm green to 17 % MC as construction lumber (KVH.DIN 4074).
Then a HIGH VAC®- Master went into operation in 2006.

Result:

After testing and comparison, the company is now achieving 3 to 5 times faster drying times than with their conventional kilns.  Due to the steam pulsation, a more even moisture contribution was possible without drying defects, and this as well in the upper layers without concrete weights or tension springs. Requirements according to DIN 4074 are met or are even bettered.   The HIGH VAC®- Master dries this lumber well, very economically to 12% core moisture content.

Example 2: Exotic ( Sapelli,...)

This company dries with 3 HIGH VAC® - Standard especially Mahogany – Sapelli (80mm to 105mm, green to 16%) for windows and stairs ... End 2006 one of the HIGH VAC® - S was modified to HIGH VAC® - Master with Steam pulsation Software.

Result:

Already the first comparison results showed:  Drying time decrease by approx.20% without any drying defects. Moreover, even moisture content contribution. No twists or cupping = satisfied customer.

March 2007 we got the order to modify the remaining two HIGH VAC® - Standard to Steam pulsation, confirmation of the improvements produced by Steam & Master series technologies.
